Jonathan Demme is set to tackle the world of evangelical ministers with the film Come Sunday and is enlisting Robert Redford to play the late Oral Roberts.

The film, which will be financed and produced by Endgame Entertainment (Looper), chronicles the true story of Carlton Pearson, a renowned evangelical minister in Tulsa, Okla., who stirs up controversy with his revelation that there is no hell. He loses everything and must rebuild his church and his family and find his own personal faith. Jeffrey Wright (Quantum of Solace) is in talks to take on the starring role of Pearson.

Roberts, an early pioneer of TV evangelism who reached millions of followers worldwide over more than six decades, served as Pearson's mentor. Redford, whose recent credits include the superhero pic Captain America: The Winter Soldier and J.C. Chandor's All Is Lost, is in discussions to tackle the supporting role of the controversial minister.

It’s just a supporting role. He probably won’t get to say “Heal!”

I believe Oral Roberts was over 6 feet tall. Wikipedia lists Redford at 5'10". This is a lie.

I stood next to Robert Redford at a nice restaurant on Cape Cod many years ago. He was wearing boots with heels. I am 6'1" and was looking down at him. He is no more than 5'7".

Well, the devil didn't like Heaven's for Real and other solid Christan stories containing solid Christian characters, so now they'll do a movie about the crackpot Carlton Pearson.

Redford has aged badly. Maybe that’s what happens to liberals.

I think I’d go with Robert Duvall or Tommy Lee Jones, but that’s just me. Redford could maybe do the contemporary Billy Graham if he could do the voice. But do you remember Sundance ever doing anything that involved accents?

I happen to work in the CityPlex towers....I work in the 30 tower.

I've heard many stories about Oral...but they are just stories to me....I can't verify any of them.

The City of Faith Medical Center / Research Center...was quite something back in the day...people tell me.

I can say...the towers are impressive. They can be seen from many miles away. They are well built.

I went to ORU for one year and it was recommended to me I was better suited to a state school( cough cough)
I would recruit little old ladies to sit in my seat and skip chapel. When they walked down the isle checking for empty seats mine would be full
Till the seminary student turned me in
Then Oral was hawking prayer rags with a hand print on them he had prayed, over. Donate 50 bucks and you get the rag to lay upon your body where it hurts and you had your miracle.
I snagged about ten of them one day and got caught checking my oil with one. Like Orals hand wasn’t good enough to check oil, and it might have stopped the leak.
It was a fun place though. Top notch schooling.

I know a bit about the Greenwood area of T-Town....

Was called the "Black Wall Street" back in the 20's....

The stories...go this way and that way..from what I've read.

It's hard to know the truth now.

I can truthfully say...from a born and raised SoCal boy...I never saw as much overt ignorance with race...until I moved to OK.
