We don’t have chipmunks, but we have squirrels. We usually just use live traps and bait them with whatever the little bushy tails are showing an interest in.

Then we haul them off to the woods. Lately the swimming pool is lending a hand. For some reason they seem to want to dive in from the closest tree, and then can’t seem to find their way out.

I have heard that cayenne pepper sprinkle around the edges helps keep them away, among other things. I have never tried any of the deterrent stuff.

Buy the cheapiest red pepper you can find. Circle whatever you want to protect. It will give some things the needed time to get going to the point the squirrels are not interested.

Never heard of hauling off squirrels. Some end up in the stew pot but 99.9% are left to be. Now, porcupines are another story. The dogs had two cornered a few days ago and hubby managed to capture one and haul him off to the park. Dogs, humans and spikey fellow came out unscathed.
