Jürgen Klinsmann tells son to apologise to Donovan for ‘disrespectful’ tweet

Jürgen Klinsmann has told his son to apologise to Landon Donovan for a “disrespectful” tweet after the striker was left out of the United States World Cup squad.

Jonathan Klinsmann, a goalkeeper with the US Under-18s, followed Thursday’s squad announcement by tweeting: “HAHAHAHAHAHAH DONOVAN HAHAHAHAA I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE UNTIL MY PHONE NOTIFIED ME” followed by four emoticons with tears and another “HAHA”. The account was quickly deleted.

“Hugely disappointed. I called him right away,” the US coach, Klinsmann Sr, said on Friday. “He realised just a few minutes after that what he’s done. He came out of school kind of fooling around with his classmates and they just went off on Twitter, not being aware that he’s actually followed on Twitter.”

World Cup: Roy Hodgson has England squad sweating in Portugal training camp
the weather did not play ball with Hodgson - the resort of Vale do Lobo was barely warmer than much of England on Wednesday, with a powerful cold wind blowing through the squad's first and only open training session.

Not to be outdone by the weather, Hodgson ordered his players to put on three layers to train in

Roy Hodgson tells England to sacrifice their egos
‘We know our only chance of success is as a team, together,’ said Hodgson. ‘There’s no chance for any team in the World Cup if they’re not together. ‘We’ve seen that in the past, like France in the last one, with all the problems coming out.

'Worn out' Wayne Rooney could have already hit his peak, claims ex-Man United team-mate Paul Scholes
The striker will carry much of England's hopes at the World Cup but Scholes thinks he may have delivered his best a lot younger than his fellow pros

Pictures are out there showing Donovan packed on about 25 extra pounds and that would be a big concern. I don’t know what his current weight is or what it was earlier in the year.

Though, I’d tend to see it as a mistake not to pick him. A lot of people say chances are, one of those selected will pick up an injury before the World Cup and Donovan will be brought in.

Still, weight is a real question.

Klinsmann is a pretty good coach. He did a lot to bring Germany back to form. He had a lot of complaints for some of the picks he made there but they all turned out pretty good.

Meet The 18-Year-Old German-American Phenom Who Made The US World Cup Team Over Landon DonovanAt 18 years old, Julian Green has played three minutes of top-flight professional soccer in his career.

On Thursday, U.S. men's national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann named him to the 23-man roster for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Klinsmann picked Green, the best prospect in the US soccer system, over Landon Donovan, the best American player of his generation, and a slew of other more experienced players.

Green is one of five German-Americans on the U.S. team going to Brazil. There's also an Icelandic-American, a Norwegian-American, and a Mexican-American.

Sounds like Klinsmann put a lot of effort into recruiting players who didn't actually grow up in the US, or in US soccer organizations.

Sounds like he’s trying to pick the best players to me.

That classless and stupid tweet by his son, and the fact Klinsmann had 23 slots where he could have included Donovan and several younger players sounds like there's some ego or old grudges involved rather than objectivity.

Sounds like the son was projecting some insider (inside the family) animosity. And Klinsmann's blather and excuse making for his son is beyond absurd.

I agree what his son did was devoid of class. There probably is some animosity between the two. Maybe a US player will get “hurt” and Donovan will join the team.

If the US gets out of the group, Klinsmann will get praise. If they don’t, the questions will be flying about his decisions.

93rd minute, Champions League, can’t believe it, Real Madrid knotted it up 1-1, shades of that game I guess in ‘99(?), the famous one where Manchester Utd. came back against Bayern Munich... I have a video of that game... but I’ve got to hook it up to the VCR... kind of bulky now, I’ll bet most of those games are now on youtube, I should throw my cassettes away.

Too bad Atletico and Real will most likely get their 10th Champions League Title, I think that is the number.

That was a great match. After Ramos got that header to equalize, you knew Atletico was done.
