From 8 until 11 p.m., the air is filled with vintage jazz, swing, and big band recordings from the '20s thru the '50s. Listen live at the link.
The host has been running this show since 1980 and it's interesting to hear the background stories about the music and the performers.
Yeah, the WWI stuff is historically interesting, but I’m glad he’s now moving on to 1943 with The Capitol Jazzmen sessions.
I’m not able to listen but doesn’t the Capitol Jazzmen include Dave Barbour, Peggy Lee’s husband?
New American Jazz - [1944] 78rpm album, 4-record set.
The Capitol Jazzmen
Dave Barbour (guitar), Barney Bigard (clarinet), Shorty Sherock (trumpet), Nick Fatool (drums), Pete Johnson (piano), Nappy Lamare (guitar), Peggy Lee (vocals), Dave Matthews (tenor saxophone), Billy May (trumpet), Eddie Miller (tenor saxophone), Jimmie Noone (clarinet), Les Robinson (alto saxophone), Art Shapiro (bass), Zutty Singleton (drums), Joe Sullivan (piano), Jack Teagarden (trombone), Hank Wayland (bass), Stanley Wrightsman (celeste).
I like Happy Feet too...recorded on February 10, 1930 (see below). Can you do videos?
This one has great sound quality (it’s recorded loud, I’d start it at about 75% volume or less)

This one has a bunch of pictures from the era...to see them I just muted the sound and paused it on each one ‘cause some of them go by pretty fast. . .

Thanks. Peggy Lee was my first singer crush, from seeing her on TV. “Sans Souci” and “River River” -— ooooh!
I’m told that as a toddler I knew Ella Fitzgerald’s name, though mispronouncing it. In the 1970s I was able to see her in concert with the Count Basie Orchestra.
Thanks for the tip about Marion Harris. If you can do videos...I found a neat movie clip of her singing in 1928. . .

Thanks for the link. It is the cleanest version of 'Paul Whiteman - Happy Feet' I've heard. The horn section is really clear.
Thanks again.
