"Dale soon began appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show where he played his signature single "Misirlou". He later stated, "I still remember the first night we played it. I changed the tempo, and just started cranking on that mother. And...it was eerie. The people came rising up off the floor, and they were chanting and stomping...."

Leo Fender kept giving Dale amps and Dale kept blowing them up! Till one night Leo and his right hand man Freddy T. (Freddie Tavares) went down to the Rendezvous Ballroom on the Balboa Peninsula in Balboa, California and stood in the middle of four thousand screaming and dancing Dick Dale fans, and said to Freddy, I now know what Dick Dale is trying to tell me. They went to JBLJames B. Lansing loudspeaker company and explained that they wanted a fifteen inch loudspeaker built to their specifications. The unit became famous as the 15" JBL D130F model. It made the complete package for Dale to play through and was named the Single Showman Amp. When Dale plugged his Fender Stratocaster guitar into the new Showman Amp and loudspeaker cabinet, Dale became the first person on earth to jump from the volume scale of a modest quiet guitar player (on a scale of 4) to blasting up through the volume scale to TEN! Thanks for that piece of info.
Actually just listened to that on Pandora, I have Dale a bunch of other great guitar groups like The Shadows, Ventures, Los Straightjackets, Duane Eddy, Junior Brown, lots of great music, but Dick Dale is THE KING!

I saw Dick Dale in person on several occasions. He used to play around Southern California in hte 1970’s.

My wife and I saw that movie on Easter Morning when it came out...we had to burn a few hours before going over to her parents for Easter Brunch, so we went to see Pulp Fiction. Had no idea what the movie was or what it was about...it started at the right time and went for the right duration.
We walked out after, looked at each other and nearly simultaneously said: “We’re going to Hell for sure after seeing that movie this morning!
Funny thing was, when the movie started out with that song, I very nearly went up to the manager and told him they had the sound up too high in that theater. Hah...it was just that song...:)
That movie now owns that song for an entire generation...or two.
Left handed and had the strings on his guitar reversed if I recall correctly.
Thanx, I’ve just spent 3 hours roaming around in the You Tube music labyrinth. :-) Lots of stuff I’ve not heard in many years.
