I’m sure there are some who’ve had disagreements with the moderators. I’ll even bet that mods are sometimes wrong. (For the record, I am not now nor have I ever been a mod or in any kind of position with free republic at all.)

But, one of my best memories about mods was when I was a young freeper some 14-15 years ago, full of piss and vinegar, and sass. There were times I was not a nice person. I remember once really going after a mod. I was insulting. (And sadly I was a Christian pastor.) I got a note from that mod via freepmail, and it said simply “Mods are People, too.”

It hit me between the eyes. I was using cyber-anonymity to be a jerk, and in my case a Christian jerk. I don’t know who that mod is or even if he/she is still around. All I know is that they helped me to think and to recognize a sinfulness that I was hurting people with.

Since then I’ve tried to read my posts before hitting send with my major eye looking for anything offensive to a person who, even if they sounded rude, might not have been trying to be that way at all. (Because of that I miss many grammar and spelling errors. :>)

So, this is all to say that the curse of sin sometimes reaches out and grabs us and has us do things we later regret. I honestly hope and pray that you’ll forgive anyone who has hurt you or any of your friends in the past.

We really need your gift, Darin. If you can help out, it will continue to help provide a conservative voice that is independent of control by daddy warbucks or chairman mao.

I love the small towns bricked-fronted buildings. We stopped in some by the lakes. Cumberland Falls was awesome, on the other side. Lots to do.

And I found KY to be the most dog-friendly state. Cooper went with me on our 8500 mile trip, passing through 21 states. Kentucky won hands down! He even got to go up the Jefferson Davis monument and through their gift shop ;)

I was driving a Prius, carrying a yorkie, had CA plates - and people were still very warm and friendly. ;)

Blue people?

400!

Is the Chuckey area big on tomato farms?

About an hour away, I found 90 acres near Hampton, part wooded and part pasture. We could be neighbors at a distance - we are moving there to be around like-minded folks! Would be perfect if it wasn’t so. expensive to get power to the center of the property. My neighbors here are so inconsiderate that I don’t want to be near other houses. I think southerners will be more polite than the entitlement-babies here in CA, though.

Well at least you aren’t in a completely invaded border state. When English is rarely heard, that is pretty bad.

Yes, I can’t wait to move back to the US!

That is a good point. I lurked here for nearly 2 years before I posted anything. I would not have bought a membership or paid a fee while lurking. Not sure why though- I paid for a newspaper subscription for many years.

It took a while for me to donate. I loved the site, but as soon as I started posting I had a group of bullies who would actually pick on me, for not agreeing with them on every issue. They ended up getting banned one by one, but in the meantime I began to post on border issues since I live on the border. At that time even most freepers believed the liberal mantra that if you were against illegals you were racist, lying, whatever- border issues were not real to most. I did not donate because I did not feel that welcome here. I got tired of the bullies and being attacked for posting on border issues- spoke my mind about both and got banned.

After a couple of years the climate about the border changed and I emailed Mr. Robinson and asked to be allowed to return, he was nice enough to allow me to return. I still did not donate for a while because I was not sure just how welcome I was here. When I felt I belonged I became a regular contributor.

I like the old brick fronted buildings too. Most of them in some small towns have been burned for insurance money, because the heat bill and maintenance is high. Shame.
Ky is largely a live and let live state and most folks feel no need to cause problems for other people. Course there are transplants or busybodies in some areas who will tell you they are allergic to dogs or cats or cigarette smoke simply to try and make you as miserable as they are. They are easily avoided, just never do business with them again or run over them in the parking lot. See life is simple.:>)
Most people have dogs or cats or both in their homes and most grew up on small farms so that explains the affinity they feel for their animals. Most people in Ky are polite and good natured, something you will notice in Ky is that when a woman or a man has car trouble people will stop and offer to help and if they can help will refuse any pay. Ky people are by and large just good people.
Cooper is a good name for a dog, one of the best dogs I ever met was named Cooper.
Prius, carrying your dog, Ca. tags, you must be from PC central.:)
Blue people, not a joke, they are reclusive and keep to themselves makes em hard to find. They do exist, appears that two ancestors got together and had offspring who were blue. If I remember the story correctly one was French Canadian the other I can’t remember from where, both carried a recessive gene that made their offspring blue. It has been written about and they are around still and can be found but if I told you where it would take away the fun of searching for em. The odds of these two getting together and this happening are said to be astronomical. Least that is the story.
Ky has its problems like any other place, largely caused by drug use, but that is epidemic pretty much everywhere. The days of parking your car in town with the keys in it and your purse on the seat are gone. Leaving your house unlocked while you are gone for a few hours or asleep with the doors open only the screen door shut are history too. Course the thieves know that walking into a man’s house in the middle of the night uninvited and unknown to them is a quick way to meet your maker. Tends to discourage all but the most determined and stupid ones, hopefully you can get them before they breed.
Ky is a little different state from others I have lived in, largely due to its people and their traditions and culture. Geographically you are in the center of the nation and of course the center of the universe is here in Ky, probably the closest place like it is Tenn.
Did you ever visit Cades Cove about a half hour from Gatlinburg, Tenn.? Well worth the trip.
Where ever you settle, good luck and I hope you like it.

The bottom line is people are banned for the things they say/post. If you let anger rule you while posting it will get the best of you.

Thanks, T. Invite your other FRiends to help out.

Where else do conservatives get a voice like they have here at Free Republic?

The tomato fields down by the Nolichucky River seem to go on forever...

Our neighbors in Tennessee were wonderful...the exact opposite of the nasty SOB's here in soviet Red Hampshire. We've stayed in touch with many friends, and even listen to a Tennessee pastor online. Going back October 31st or shortly thereafter.

Bet you’re excited. Our ETA is next March :)

Do you have a home there yet? I was wondering how many acres you are requiring?

I'm not greedy...three to five acres...enough room for a couple of greenhouses, as I don't like to grow in the ground. No home yet...may build our own.

Excited doesn't cover it...I consider it 'going home'. I despise Red England (spit, spit, spit), but am here on an 'in-law thing'. :-)

To: who knows what evil?

LOL! (about the spitting).

Red England from red=commies?

We almost put a bid on a house with a greenhouse. That would’ve been great. But someone beat us to it.

We got a quote for $115-120/sq Ft to build. Seems we can get one already built for cheaper, considering land cost and bringing in utilities. But finding the ‘right’ one that won’t be a money pit is becoming a problem.

Did you know Tennessee had no building codes before 2010? I don’t like government intervention at all, but it does pose a concern for buyers.

Bingo..along with red for the blood of unborn children. Red Hampshire is represented by two 'pro-death' congresswomen, a 'pro-death' Governor (Maggie Hassan), and a 'pro-death' Senator in Jeanne Shaheen (not sure about Ayotte). I have pro-life patriotic Americans representing my wife and I in eastern Tennessee.
