Flagstaff actually does have ski facilities- Arizona Snow Bowl is what it used to be called- pretty neat but not large scale and doesn’t always get enough snow. I am sure the area is not up to Olympic needs. I would imagine one of the large Colorado resorts would be much more appropriate.
I was in Lake Placid a few years ago. There was actually talk of Lake Placid and Montreal (they’re about two hours apart) co-hosting the games. Lake Placid has the facilities to support outdoor events (ski jumping, downhill etc.) and Montreal the indoor events (figure skating, hockey). First Olympics hosted by two countries. I thought, interesting idea, quite creative.
In Chicago we gave a billionaire his taxpayer paid, custom built stadium for free and we get it back in 30 years. Yipee!
No true representative would do this to their client.
Redbull does it all the time and it’s twice as exciting, plus I don’t have to subsidize it if I don’t want to.
Privatize the Olympics, it’s an old idea grown stale in the 21st century.
I got a field out back they could use if they’d promise to stay out of the barn.
If they don’t want permanent facilities, let cities bid for two or three consecutive games so the facilities can have a useful life.
I think you meant to type, “Super Bowl”.
NFL was hypocritical. They demanded AZ make MLK birthday a state holiday, and yet the NFL did not give their own employees the day off.
Yuma, Ariz. would probably not have enough hotels to host a Winter Olympics. However, that wouldn’t be a problem for Honolulu, which has more than enough hotels In Waikiki alone. To my knowledge, Honolulu has never hosted the Winter Olympics.
Agreed.
