Three Northeast Tennessee students, one from Dobyns-Bennett High School and two home-schooled, have received college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships. That puts them among 2,500 students nationwide receiving awards that were scheduled to be announced today.
They are home-schooled students Andrew R. Carver, of Blountville, and Abigail L. Johnson, of Johnson City, and Dobyns-Bennett's Andrew H. Nottingham.

Good for them. National Merit scholarships are nothing to sneeze at. I’m not surprised 67% of them escaped the clutches of the local public school system and were home-schooled. Their parents must be proud.
