In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

meliorism \MEEL-yuh-riz-uhm, MEE-lee-uh- \ , noun
The doctrine that the world tends to become better or may be made better by human effort.

Example sentences:
For a life worthy to be lived is one that is full of active aspiration, for something higher and better; andsuch a contemplation of the world we call meliorism .
-- Paul Carus, Monism and Meliorism , 1885

The leaders rejected the soft meliorism of more secular activists, the idea that significant progresscould be made through consciousness-raising and education campaigns, through consensus andgradual reform.
-- David Brooks, "The Ideas Behind the March," The New York Times , 2013

Etymology:
Meliorism entered English in the late 1800s. It comes from the Latin word melior meaning "better."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Hillary long felt that her world and her finances needed to be meliorated by cash, since the Clintons had none. First she registered a “gift list”, filled with suggested expensive gifts, when their term in the WH ended. Then she took her gigantic book advance, followed by expensive speaking tours. Now, it seems that there is $6B missing from State Department accounts under her watch. I’d say she’s meliorated her finances enough.

Mooch-elle’s attempt at nutritional meliorism through meal-iorism, particularly her school lunch initiative, has been a typical Obama farce, a complete and utter failure.

Tonight is the exciting finale of the BEE! The drive-time radio personalities I listen to on the way in conducted their annual fantasy draft for it this AM. It was pretty funny. If I remember I may even watch tonight to see how their picks do! VERY disappointing that western PA only appears to have one contestant, the rest of the PA contestants are from mid or eastern PA. Yet, both Warren and Boardman Ohio EACH have a contestant.

The doctrine of the current “administration” would be more aptly called ‘me-liarism’.

Do you remember FRee Republic’s “Count the Silverware Ball” after “W’s” first Inauguration?

That was all based on a WH usher’s remark that when the Clintons leave the WH, somebody should “count the silverware.” And then we found out about all the furniture and knick knacks she stole, including the bust of JFK.

I looked but couldn’t find the gif of her in that enormous brown trench coat leaving the WH, and it was loaded with silverware.
