Former Muskogee VA Medical Center Official Guilty Of Accepting Gratuity

The former chief of prosthetics at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Muskogee pleaded guilty in federal court to having fence and driveway work done on his home paid for by a medical supply company, according to the US Attorney's Office in Muskogee. Jeffrey Fisher, 37, of Broken Arrow pleaded guilty Tuesday to being a public official who received a gratuity.

The US Attorney's Office said the charge arose from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of the Inspector General.

In a news release, the government said that beginning in April 2009 and continuing through March 2010, Jeffrey Fisher "directly and indirectly did demand, seek, receive, accept and agree to receive and accept something of value personally." The information also says Fisher "solicited Al's Medical, Muskogee, Oklahoma, a medical supply company doing business with the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma to pay for construction and remodeling work on Fisher's private residence."

Following Fisher's plea, a federal judge ordered a presentence report. Once the report is completed, officials say a sentencing date will be set.

Fisher remains free on bond.

A Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center spokesperson said Fisher's last day of employment at the hospital was May 17, 2011.

You’re right. We lived outside OKC and this is the first I’ve heard of it. I wonder what the sentence will be?

Right, we need to report to understand to what he just plead guilty. Is Obama the judge?

With the current climate I would hope for some jail time as an example to others but I doubt it.

Just 3 years from the time they had enough evidence to make a federal firing stick (harder than getting a felony conviction) and the US Attorney could get it ready for trial. Impressive speed by the DOJ.

I work for the VA at Muskogee, and I can tell you there was a WHOLE lot more going than just this.

The VA appears riddled with unethical bums. Unfortunately, most of them can’t be fired no matter what they do...including allowing Veterans to die while supposedly on waiting lists.

Nobody robs banks anymore. Our thieves become politicians or government employees.
