I saw that movie in 1975

Same here and it was the last movie I ever went to see in a theater.

You have to be talking about the opening scene. The scariest of the whole movie.

The girl in the opening scene had dandruff. They found her head and shoulders on the beach.

Yes he did get eaten. All things considered I think they did a decent job with the film. The fingernails on the chalkboard / “...but I’ll catch him, and kill him, for ten” scene is still one of my favorites.

Wow, it’s been awhile since I watched the film and had forgotten that part.

I convinced my dearly departed, who was strictly a John Wayne Movie Week kinda guy, to take me to see Jaws.

Last time we ever went to a movie. I’m pretty sure he thought I was some kind of ghoul since I really did enjoy the movie...while he looked down at the floor thru most of it. :)

Without a doubt Shaw did an excellent job. I can’t argue that point since it will always..almost bring me to tears.

But the girl in the beginning? Never heard of her before or since. She did an artful job of making a person believe she was really under attack by a shark and setting the mood. Pretty good work for what was essentially a no-name.

I turned the movie on when I saw this thread. I think I’ll always stand and cheer when Schrieder is going down on the mast and says “Smile you sonofa...” and blows the fish to smithereens. I have always worried about him and Hooper paddling around in that blood filled water...no way that would attract other sharks, lol.

Watched it in a local commercial fishermans bar when it first came out on cable.
Quint said. “This shark, swallow ya whole”.
Some clown said ( in character) “...and rest of ya too”

Great points and shows why technology hasn’t lead to better films. Because of all the technical glitches Spielberg had to rely on the fundamentals that make a great film: 1. scripting and 2. editing.

Scripting includes more than just a good story, it’s the execution from casting to choosing the location to the directing.

Editing then brings it all together. Spielberg, like Lucas, hit it out of the Park and has since been proving that he’s just not that talented.
