To be even “fairer”, they “work” about 8 1/2-9 months per year, have tremendous benefits, get “tenure”, have tremendous retirement.

To be fair, they work very late hours and get almost no vacation time. They also can't get fired, get regular pay increases (even if their performance sucks) and can hold a captive audience to brainwash with their dogma.
I don't begrudge the good teachers out there, that work hard, stay politically unbiased and seek to be decent role models to youth, but I have a problem with teachers who are the exact opposite of what I just described.
