I can remember when school principals were always men, and were always men.

Quote from teen student where Principal Comes Out; “A lot of jaws dropped, including his.” Not the best choice of metaphors, given the topic.

It’s highly inappropriate to mentions one’s sexual preferences in front of the student body. He needs to be fired.

Schools should stick to the 3 Rs and nothing else.

Very depressing. Who the heck ever cared who their high school principal slept with? But now that’s the only thing that matters.

Oooooh. A great “educator” this guy/gay. He’s a great example “for the children”. I just hope he washes his hands before coming to school. Who knows just what they have been “touching”?

But students were very supportive, responding with cheers and applause.

Of course they did. Any kid who didn't jump up and down with joy at the news would be ostracized, called "homophobic" or whatever. I wonder how many kids felt uncomfortable, but didn't dare say anything?

I remember years ago when Ellen Degeneres came out on her sitcom. Throughout the episode, she kept telling other characters she was gay and every time, the studio audience erupted in cheers and applause. I remember thinking then that impressionable young viewers might get the idea that coming out as gay would be like winning the lottery. You'd get attention, compliments, congratulations, and cheers...all while being considered "brave." I thought then that more kids might soon be coming out as gay as a result.

Same with this story. When the principal made his announcement and got cheers and applause as a result, how many kids thought, "Gee, that looks like a great way to get attention, sympathy and approval"?
