Town's entire police department quits

Not to worry, there is a County Sheriff in that county and has the law enforcement responsibility for that community albeit a tiny one. I live in a very small community myself with 888 people and off and on, there is a police dept. here, budgets permitting. When no funds are available, the law enforcement responsibilities go to the sheriff’s dept. I believe this is similar all over the country.
