What the hell is a MiG-28? And why does it look so similar to an F-104?

In the late 70's and 80's, the F-5 was used by the 65th Aggressor Squadron, based at Nellis:

They were painted in Soviet Air Force motif, with subdued USAF markings. I read an article about them long ago: the pilots studied Soviet tactics, and tried to emulate them.

The Aggressor Squadron was reactivated in 2005, and fly F-15's now.
