Teens shooting out car windows with BB guns wind up calling 911 after victim scares them

This week, five teenagers decided to drive around some Santa Fe, New Mexico neighborhoods and shoot random cars with BB guns. It would appear that they wound up shooting the wrong person’s car, though. A victim decided to chase after the teens, scaring them so much that the teens felt the need to call 911 for help. As KOAT reports, police came right away and…arrested the teens.

The Santa Fe Police Department had been receiving calls - complaints about vandals shooting at cars, so when they heard from the teenagers, they were already aware of the crimes they had committed. When one victim did not want them to get away, he gave chase. One of the teens, in the 911 call, told a dispatcher, “Every time we speed up, that car speeds up and tries to keep up with us.” When police arrived, the teens admitted what they had done and were subsequently arrested.

How unusual. They arrested the teens instead of the victim.

I guess the victim is lucky they were just stupid teenagers with BB guns. Not sure I would chase, they might have been able to do bodily injury.

Glad they got caught.

Yeah!! That’s the spirit.

HIDE UNDER THE BED.

I have a feeling that if someone were to ‘accost’ me and I took them out and YOU were on the jury that YOU would vote to convict me because one of ‘his’ Compadres heard me say:
“Son, I guess your horoscope didn’t mention that if you were to mess with someone like me today you wouldn’t see tomorrow”.

Well that was a totally IDIOTIC reply.

It’s pretty stupid to chase after a car full of people who could have weapons other than BB guns.

If you think your life if worth a stupid car, then please GO FOR IT.

Your stupid, hot headed attitude would probably get you convicted. It’s like store owners who chase kids for a six pack of beer and end of killing them “in self defense”. If someone is fleeing, you chase them, and end up shooting them, you will probably be charged not them.

My entire comment was based on the fact that it’s really stupid to risk bodily harm or death because your car got damaged.

Stupid is as Stupid does.

Wow, cops using common sense by arresting the little punks rather than the victim.

Yeah, i was very surprised at that turn of events.

The Agents of the State usually don’t take kindly to someone “taking the law into his own hands” and will punish him like a GOPe on a Tea Party candidate.

The story is if the Guy DOESN’T chase the kids, they are still out shooting randomly AND if they have other than a BB gun, their instinct may be to ‘upgrade’ their sport.

IDIOTIC is sitting on your thumbs and hiding under the bed while the world is imploding around you.

Police ADMIT their ‘job’ isn’t to protect YOU, it is to catch and prosecute AFTER the fact.

Like I said, keep hiding under the bed and memorize 911.

Also you said ‘my stupid, hot head attitude’ may be a good statement IF one would have been chasing this car down the street, guns blazing.

This guy did as a ‘good citizen’ should do - he observed a crime in progress, followed the ‘criminals’ and assisted the police in capturing them.

He just didn’t draw the shades, dial 911 and wait an hour or so for someone to come out and take a statement.

It is citizen involvement that drives crime rates down and keeps them down.

That is correct.... And Julianno had the right idea with his ‘broken window policy’.

Back when I was doing a lot of pickups and deliveries, if I had a call to say an apartment complex and the lawns were unkempt, wrecked and seemingly abandoned cars in the lots and - if a holiday - NO decorations of any kind, I would just call the ‘customer’ and tell them to meet me at the entrance.
AND I did NOT even take the time to ‘check out the complexion’ of the neighborhood - it didn’t/doesn’t matter.
We did have a ‘clause’ (sort of a CYA for us) that if the phone # you gave was bogus or not answered you ‘broke the contract’.
I ‘broke the rules’ and always was packing but that was more for my own ‘self assurance’ than anything else.
