The Girl From Ipanema

Also known as Garota de Ipanema. Josh Turner and Larkin Dodgen attempt the Tom Jobim classic that made Bossa Nova popular and launched Astrud Gilberto's singing career. Forgive my Portuguese. Guitar is a Gitane D-500; mics are a pair of Audio Technica AT2050's, camera is a Kodak Playsport. Thanks to Carson McKee (channel: drakeelliot) for helping with the recording. Please feel free to leave thoughts and suggestions!

Josh and Larkin.

Best duet I’ve heard in 30 years.

Just listened to about 20 of Josh Larkin Youtubes.

Never heard of him before, but an amazing talent.

So am I weird for liking BOTH the young jazz couple AND Amon Amarth? Just call me eclectic.

I see so much incredible talent like this today but none of them write their own music which is truly how real music careers start. Just think: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Buddy Holly, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, were all about the same age as these two - they had talent but they did something that pushed them to the next level: They wrote their own music.

You left out Elvis, Judy Garland, Celine Dion and Frank Sinatra.

I like them both.

Nice thing about thee standards, you can like several artists on the same songs/melodies.

There are a couple of Josh Turner’s renditions I didn’t care for too much. It also seems as though the takes may have been dubbed or 3 piece with rhythm is what is being heard. Also, the posture of the singers frequently don’t favor their best performance, but the audio is great, so it causes me to wonder.

Josh must’ve picked it up in part from his father.
