NEW YORK (AP) — California Chrome failed in his bid to win the first Triple Crown in 36 years on Saturday, losing the Belmont Stakes to 9-1 long shot Tonalist.

The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner finished in a dead-heat for fourth with Wicked Strong. California Chrome's loss extended the longest drought without a Triple Crown champion.

And what a spoiled whiny SOB his owner is. “WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! My pony had to race against fresh horses that weren’t even IN the other two races! Everybody plotted against me just to keep my pony from winning all three races! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!”

Hey I was cheering for Wicked Strong at the Kentucky Derby. He tied for forth today with California Chrome. I believe there is hope in the future for that horse.

Cut the guy a break. He just moments earlier lost a very big race, one very important to him.

There’s a story just out that the horse tore a chunk of flesh out of his right front foot somewhere during the race.

Saw a picture of it. Looks like it would hurt like hell to run on that.

Gotta give the horse credit for hanging in there and thank the good Lord that he’s okay.

He was freakin’ ROBBED. If his foot hadn’t been crunched on coming out the gate he would have won it, fresh other ponies or no...

I don’t think he clipped himself, you can see the 3 horse hitting him coming out the gate.

If ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ were candy and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas.

The build up to the Belmont Stakes was huge. The guy was disappointed who wouldn't be. I cut him some slack and blame the reporter for not cutting the interview short when he should have realized the guy was not composed yet. To add insult to injury Costas jumped on board asking the winning owner what he thought. Shame on you Bob Costas you should apologize.

That said California Chrome is still an amazing horse. Few three year olds are capable of taking 2 legs of the triple crown. The horse will still make some money at stud for his owners. If they are smart they will retire him.

Yours is a charitable and kind response.....Thank-you

Indeed the lead up to this eace was so whipped by the hoopla.....( and it usually is)......It was a huge letdown for everyone!

I like your measured response.

And the winner’s owner reacted in a very civil and adult way to Costa. Classy!
