We have mangroves and crocodiles (albeit not as big and not as many!) in Florida. It is quite disconcerting riding one's Harley on a narrow 20 mile causeway and seeing a sign:

CAUTION: WATCH OUT FOR CROCODILES"

Gators are Sunday School Kids compared to these guys! (Shudder)

I am an avid student of WW2, and had never heard that story. Thank you for the link.
