Records werent broken in the first half. They were demolished by a wrecking ball rigged with dynamite.
Doors werent blown off in the games first 12 minutes. They were launched into Biscayne Bay.
The Spurs didnt shoot out the lights. They simply absorbed all the electricity pulsating from AmericanAirlines Arena and Miami-Dade County in two hard-to-believe quarters.
They jumped on us and they were the aggressor tonight, LeBron James said. They had us on our heels from the beginning. This is something that at this point in the season shouldnt happen.
The Spurs shot 75.8 percent in the first half to take a 71-50 lead and set an NBA Finals record for field-goal percentage in a half. At one point, it was like the San Antonio was playing inside a video game, or maybe playing against no one at all.
They came out in a different gear than us, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.
The Heat fell behind by 25 points quickly, and the outcome was never really in doubt despite some impressive fight from the home team and loyal support from a maturing fan base. But as thorough of a performance as the Spurs delivered on Tuesday, it was nothing compared to last year. Amazingly, the 2013 Finals provided a bigger blowout for the Spurs. In those Finals, San Antonio defeated Miami by 36 points in Game 3 to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
The Spurs shooting percentage in the first half (75.8) was the teams fifth-best shooting percentage in a half in the Duncan era. The Spurs set Heat opponent playoff records for points in a quarter (41, in the first quarter) and a half (71, in the first half).

Any mention of the murdered chef?
Were they playing dirty again?

God Bless Kawhi Leonard. I felt bad for him in Games 1 and 2. He busted his butt, but only had 18 points total for both games. But last night?
29.
He was finally not intimidated by Lebron James. Played him straight up all the way from beginning to end. I’m thinking we may be okay if Duncan decides to retire after the finals. Love these guys! GSG!
It was a very satisfying beatdown by the Spurs. I especially liked the hundreds of “fans” heading for the exits halfway through the 4th. What a bunch of losers. Shows how much they respect and support their team.
Even the ESPN broadcasters were calling them out for their embarrassing actions.
Spurs in 6. Go Spurs Go.
I think Timmy will go another year. Even if it means coming off the bench in 10-15 minutes games, I think he could very well.
What was historic? Did they have a white player in the starting lineup?
C’mon Spurs—grab another game in Miami and then lets seal the deal in San Antone.
Already a great series.
I’m not saying Kawhi Leonard shut down LeBron James in Game 3, but he did a good job to contain him. Nobody could contain Michael Jordan in his day. Jordan remains one of the two best of all time, along with Bill Russell. Lebron James remains with Wilt Chamberlain, a truly great, even dominating player, but not so much a team leader.
Popovich out-coached the refs.
They came out in a mode that forced Lebron to do all the heavy lifting. Capable as he can be, he could not carry the entire team on his back. Indeed, he scored 14 of their first 20 points, but at a pace that would have left him as bad off as he was at the end of game 1.
They jumped on us and they were the aggressor tonight
I’m always impressed with Lebron’s vocabulary and oratory skills..../s
The Heat was stuck with White Castle burgers for the post-game buffet.
It has been somewhat refreshing to watch the spurs. They play team ball.
Just French, Italian, and Argentinians. I think New Zealand was represented.
A virtual potpourri.
End of last year I was hearing from folks inside the organization that if they won (last year), Timmy and Pop were both going to retire. Things do change, I guess. Wouldn’t hurt my feelings one bit!
