Please note that this column is NOT about anything Pope Francis has said, but comments by Honduran Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga

Note that this scum Cardinal’s gripe with libertarians is their desire for free markets, otherwise known as their common ground with conservatives.

Ahh, so it’s no longer the responsibility of individuals to follow their morals and aid their fellows, it’s no longer the responsibility of the Church to provide charity and outreach, it’s the sole responsibility of THE STATE?

I mean, what would better tend to the spiritual health of the faithful, forced taxation and government redistribution or personally motivated giving of alms? Gee, that’s a tough one. All this time I thought it was important to give of myself rather than vote something out of someone else’s pocket.

The Church really needs to remove some of those godless communists and Jesuits (but I repeat myself) from the fold.

It has long been known that strict libertarianism is incompatible with Catholic teaching.

There are a lot of libertarians on FR who are more "pragmatic", but there are a few dyed-in-the-wool libertarians as well who most likely won't give a damn what the Catholic Church thinks about libertarianism.

Most people who have looked at it find that strict libertarianism has some major philosophical inconsistencies and rests upon very questionable assumptions. So it's not just the Catholic Church that has a problem with libertarianism.

At the heart of the argument is a fundamental misconception on the part of the cardinal and the author [and Augustine] that the right to own private property is a creation of government.

There are no rights which are created by government; consequently, the cardinal's position is foolish.

Dear adviser...

One of the things you seem to have misunderstood about faith is that neither God, nor Gods creations require a gatekeeper. We can commune just fine without you.

Signed,

Humanity

Has anyone asked this Cardinal if socialism and communism are incompatible with Catholicism? Bet you would get an interesting tap dance.

So, does this mean we can treat them like all other enemies of the people when the shooting starts?
