Thank you for contacting me about U.S. Marine Corps veteran Andrew Tahmooressi.
As you may know, on March 31, 2014, Andrew Tahmooressi was arrested on weapons charges in Mexico after arriving at a border crossing point with a pistol, shotgun, and rifle in his truck. Possession of a firearm is a federal crime in Mexico, and Sergeant Tahmooressi is currently being detained while he awaits hearings concerning his case. Sergeant Tahmooressi maintains that he took a wrong turn and had no intention of crossing the Mexican border or trafficking arms. Although this affair is a matter for the Mexican judiciary, it is my hope that Sergeant Tahmooressi will soon be allowed to return to his family in the United States.
As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I will carefully monitor this situation in the days and weeks ahead. Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. Please do not hesitate to do so again in the future. I also encourage you to visit my website at flake.senate.gov.
JEFF FLAKE United States Senator
Camp Pendleton is less than an hour away by armored personnel carrier. Certainly some of the few good men could extract this US military prisoner from Mexican jail. Why do we have Force Recon anyway?
What has been his activity beyond monitoring this?
Did he at least offer to exchange 11 million illegals back to Mexico in exchange for the American?
If you can’t dazzle ‘em with brilliance, baffle ‘em with bull$#!+.
Flake? Is that his real name?
“”A classic example of a politician repeating what you already wrote him about and trying to make you believe he’s doing something””
The absolute best description of replies received from our elected representatives. They merely repeat what we just wrote to them about. This has always astounded and annoyed me and has never changed. Even when you write and let them know you’re not interested in them regurgitating the facts in their reply, it goes right over their heads. Or do the maintenance crews put out these replies in the middle of the night - unable to read English? Beats the heck out of me.
This is what Sen. Flake should have said,
“I have written a letter to the President of Mexico and I informed him that I will do all in my power to circumvent any and all transactions between the United States and Mexico until the Marine held is returned, unharmed, to US authorities. I will attempt to bring my colleagues in the Senate and representatives in the House to follow suit.
I will advise all Americans to refrain from entering Mexico and will bring a bill before the Senate to prevent all transactions regarding sending money from America to Mexico.
Return the US Marine NOW.
Senator Jeff Flake
