If the U.S. Olympic Committee decides to enter a city in the selection process, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Washington are the host site contenders

San Francisco is one of four U.S. cities on a short list of possible host sites for the 2024 Summer Olympics, part of a lengthy and expensive process that will not result in a selection for about three more years

An American bid would come from Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Washington, if the U.S. Olympic Committee decides to put a city in the running. A United States Olympic Committee process that began 16 months ago by sending letters to leaders in 35 cities is now at four finalists after Dallas and San Diego were scratched from the list of possible bidders.

"Boston, LA, San Francisco and Washington have each given us reason to believe they can deliver a compelling and successful bid...

Ugh.... can you imagine? I can see several nations boycotting such a spectacle. The homos would turn it into ‘their event’. Might as well be Sodom 2024.

No, even Baghdad would be better than SanFran.

However if there’s a shoulder-mounted missile launcher competition, we have a chance at the gold with Leland Yee

SF would be a joke. They have no real venues. Contestants would be shipped to the Sierras, down to Monterey, To Berkley....all over just to compete. They have NO SPACE to build a village for the athletes.

Talk about stupid....I guess that means it will happen

LA in 1984 had bike races on freeways. They were spread out all over the place; it seemed to work well. There is a whole bunch of space to build in the Bay Area. The trick would be getting things okayed by the environmental agencies.

Better San Fran than Boston. Boston really *doesn’t* have room to build venues. If there was a way to use existing sites for the events, it might work, but even then, traffic would be an absolute nightmare.

On the other hand, it would be kind of neat to see the rowing events held in the Charles Basin, and the marathon can use the traditional Boston Marathon route, which is one of the better world-class routes.

There won't be a U.S. as we knew it to field a team in 2024. Most of the U.S. cities listed as possible venues will be too broke by then anyway.

Keep your eyes on the World Cup in Rio de Janerio and the political turmoil around it. Now, project and magnify that turmoil for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janerio. These 2 events could well provide a peak into the future for a Summer Olympics in the U.S.

San Fransicko?

Well, pole vaulting and high jumping will lead in popularity among the local tourists, that's for sure.

They should consider giving it to a city in the so called Rust Belt. People in that region of the country still have their dreams too. The temporary building boost would help the economy for a couple years at least. You people will laugh at me, but I say “What about Detroit?”, or somewhere in Ohio. With all the newly cleared acreage now free of burnt down buildings, there should be room enough for an Olympic Village. Our neighbor to the north, my Canadian brothers in Windsor would also love it. Just be ready to spend a lot on security, come down fast and hard on any flies in the ointment.

They wouldn’t build a new stadium for the football team and they will build one for tennis and volleyball?

No thanks! Montreal just paid it’s last payment from their Olympics in 1976!

Is THAT right?! Wow. Even still though, in today’s world there are many more Millionaires than there were back in 1976. I never even heard of Billionaires until the 1990’s. Now, you even have so-called Rap singers becoming Billionaires. I bring this up to say, there are many sources of high financing available today. Some still think like Venture Capitalists used to, in that they are not afraid to lose a lot of their initial investment, if they still get publicity and product recognition. Think about this Taylor Swift is worth over $150. million, she could group with others to fund this goodwill project. Just as celebrities group to buy sports teams.

Yes. And the costs of land acquisition, design and building have risen exponentially as well. I can not imagine a city of any size wanting the Olympics. They are prestigious but prohibitively expensive to host.

No there isn’t space to build. They tried to put plans together for a bid before and it turns into a class A joke.

The Gay Games are in Cleveland this year. No kidding. There is a gay Olympics. Has been since 1982. As if the Olympics isn’t gay enough.
