Rooney was the lucky recipient of a deft pass from Sterling, one that threaded perfectly between at least 5 defenders, and sprung the play from the neutral zone to deep in the attacking zone. So far, easily the best pass of the tournament.

As for the corner, when you have the ball deep in the attacking zone, with no defender within 10 yards, well... you don't squander chances like that. Bates(?) had been doing a great job of delivering the ball to the front of the net all game. Why change? Maybe someone believed Rooney was worthless in the box and decided to give someone else a chance at the ball.

Hulk leaves Brazil practice with muscle injury
Brazil striker Hulk left a training session due to a muscle injury in his left leg Sunday but said he expects to be fit to play Mexico on Tuesday in his team’s second World Cup match.

Hulk practiced for less than 15 minutes before leaving the field. He said the injury wasn’t serious and "hopefully" it wouldn’t keep him from playing in the next match.
