And yet ANOTHER health myth for generations is debunked - partially in this case. As I read it, there is no advantage in having a BP of 139, versus 120 (the myth), although over 139 does start leading to troubles as the number goes up (still valid).

More ‘settled’ science.

Statins and BP medicines have the great benefit of killing old people by causing falls.

They did that to me. I just stopped taking all the additional meds after almost passing out when I stood up one morning.

Here’s another. Cholesterol, you may be over treated for it, and those statins kill.

This is a Brand NEW study.

I’m a Low BP 115 over 70-75, but my heart rate is high 90+ legacy of hypothyroid issues, the only time BP spikes is PAIN. When illness hits it can drop it to 100/50 then I’m in trouble. The so called Norm of 120/80 is rare for me.

I heard some talk of redefining the starndards descibing high blood pressure to 150/90.

When my Doctor first put me on the meds to control mine, my blood pressure at the time was around 140/88.

The side effects of the meds resulted in high cholesterol, which I never had before, which resulted in another scrip and the side effect of those meds was a slight up tick in blood pressure.

Funny how this works and now I’m stuck on all these meds.

Be very careful about letting a Doctor put you on blood pressure meds.

Or are they attempting to justify letting people walk around with higher blood pressure and go untreated to save on prescription costs?!? Which articles are government propaganda and which are not? I’m inclined to agree that below 140 is optimal. There are so many types of people that one set of specifications can’t cover all of them without some allowances on performance.

Washington (AFP) - One in four American adults over 60 being treated for high blood pressure could go off their medication under recent guidelines issued in the United States, a study said Saturday. The changes, which stirred controversy in the medical community, could mean nearly six million may no longer need drugs to control their blood pressure, Duke University researchers said in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The findings are the first to analyze the impact of 2014 guidelines that raised blood pressure targets to 150/90, instead of the previous goal of 140/90, in adults age 60 and...
