President Barack Obama plans to extend marine sanctuary protections over a vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, limiting fishing, drilling and other commercial activities in a nautical area more than twice the size of Texas.
The Washington Post reports that the proposal will dramatically extend the borders of an existing marine sanctuary encompassing a cluster of remote Pacific islands. It will expand the protected area surrounding the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument from 87,000 square miles to 782,000 square miles, effectively doubling the area of the world’s protected oceans.

Exactly. I would like to see an explanation of how Obama claims the right to issue decrees affecting use of remote areas of the Pacific. Is there US territory somewhere inside this part of the Pacific? Is there US law allowing the President to create his own sanctuaries? I don't think so.
Next week he declaring Mars an energy free, carbon-dioxide free Planetary zone.

Will it prevent other countries from fishing or drilling in those areas? Will Obama dedicate our shrinking Navy to enforcing this fantasy against, say, China?
It is to prevent the Navy from patrolling the coastline. They are not allow in the ‘sanctuary’.
However the various Cartels panga boats will have unfettered access,because there will be no one around to observe them or stop them.
As long as the UN doesn’t have any say in it, I’m not too concerned.
Probably prohibiting US companies from drilling, fishing etc. but will be ok for China, Russian and Viet Nam to be there.
We have to understand that global warming is the primary threat to national security.
