When I was quite young, I believe gasoline was 25 cents in the mid 50’s.

Two senators unveiled a bipartisan plan Wednesday to raise federal gasoline and diesel taxes for the first time in more than two decades, pitching the proposal as a solution to Congress’ struggle to pay for highway and transit programs

How about ... NOT USING HIGHWAY TAXES TO PAY FOR "TRANSIT PROGRAMS" ...

Transit programs don't benefit highway users (and don't bother to repeat the bullsh!t about taking the burden off the roads. That's just crap) How about making TRANST programs pay for themselves.

The other cuts are either to narrowly targeted groups (ie teachers) or the wealthy. The increase would apply to just about everyone. The whole idea of this as an “offset” is total BS.

Yep. I recall 29 9/10¢ gas throughout much of my childhood years.

In Pennsylvania, Republican governor Corbett and the Republican-controlled legislature just passed a .28 per gallon gas tax.

$6.00 gas, here we come!

Since the demRats thoroughly wrecked the economy.

It wasn’t just the D’s that wrecked it. I left the R party when they controlled both sides of the house and the executive branch and still taxed and spent like drunken democrats.

I learned then that the two parties are two sides of the same coin. They have been playing “good cop, bad cop” with us for decades. I’m not falling for it any more.

The problem isn’t too little revenue, it’s WAY too much spending. We need to cut spending by $400B next year, $200B the following year, and then start looking for the hard cuts.

F-EM.

I REALLY HATE these people, they should be repealing the gas tax, not increasing it. Gasoline is already eating into my budget!

But that’s “almost a false argument” according to Pelosi.

It’s UN Agenda 21 - attempting to force people into the cities into public housing and public transportation. Thus Obama’s stance on refusing to proceed with the pipeline.

Well what’s the problem? It’s for the children and the polar bears and it is only $.12 a gal.

Indexing would allow taxes to be raised without a vote.

Congress has the taxpayers pay for the cars they drive and have the assistants to gas up the vehicles. These 2 do not have a clue what it costs to own a vehicle.

I guess the Senators forgot that spending bills must start in the House. How about this plan? Cut the spending from all the “Gibs me dat” bills. Then we may talk.

John Anderson ran against Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter in 1980.

He got 8% of the popular vote.

He got slightly more than 0% of the Black vote, probably because he looked like the “whitest” man in America.
