Legendary Italy keeper Gianluigi Buffon reveals his battle with depression
Buffon, the world’s most expensive keeper who cost Juventus £32.5m when they bought him from Parma in 2001, has a glittering CV.

A hero of Italy’s 2006 World Cup win, he has also racked up five Serie A titles, five Italian Super Cups and the UEFA Cup as well as 140 caps.

But the 36-year-old once suffered from such severe depression he was afraid to walk on to the pitch.

Jorge Luis Pinto says Costa Rica can beat Italy
“I have studied Pirlo since 2006, when he was the best player at the World Cup,” Pinto said. “We will have to block him because he is the Italy player that thinks the most.”

Disenchantment in France With Fickle National Team
Four years ago, Les Bleus, the French national soccer team, went on strike in South Africa. The incident capped the team’s self-destruction in the 2010 World Cup. In the aftermath, the players were called undereducated “PlayStation junkies” who were too individualistic to serve the nation.

Much has changed, yet today the French hesitate to re-embrace the team. A poll conducted for the magazine France Football found that only 20 percent of French people surveyed in late April had a positive view of Les Bleus.

Honduras and Ecuador World Cup clash brings back memories for coaches
Honduras and Ecuador, who lost their opening games, chase a much-needed World Cup victory on Friday in a game that will see both coaches plotting the downfall of former teams.

Honduras are led by Luis Fernando Suárez, the man who guided Ecuador to the last 16 in 2006, their best showing at a World Cup.

Ecuador are coached by Reinaldo Rueda, moreover, who was in charge of Honduras in their 2010 World Cup campaign, when they failed to make it past the first round and did not score a goal.

To add to the feeling of familiarity, both coaches are Colombians.

Ohhh, that’s cruel....(even though chances are slim, I’m still not officially writing England off yet for making it to the next round).

From England’s standpoint, if you’re going to lose two and still be clinging to a prayer, at least the bare minimum -2 goal differential is in your corner. Still a very plausible route out of this group: TA beats CRC and URU, England beats CRC, and the tiebreakers should go their way.

England really hasn’t played poorly, they just haven’t finished well enough often enough. They might just limp their way out of this one.

Italy needs to score twice in the last 30 minutes or else England is done.

We have a shot at making it through the divisionals, with England and Spain eliminated. Who woulda thunk?
