I would think a “successful ‘defense’” of someone who is guilty requires a breach of ethics.

...and you would be wrong. The U.S. Constitution requires that an attorney defend anyone accused of a crime, and there are many ethical ways to do so.

A successful defense of someone who is guilty? One can adhere to “ethics” while getting the lowlife off the hook? The Sixth Amendment makes no allowance for that, oh no.
