Clash Daily ^ | June 18, 2014

I love wild boar hunting. LOVE. IT. It’s relatively cheap, it can be very dangerous and their backstraps are muy tasty. Here’s some good campfire fodder for boar hunters, namely, which are the best guns for dispatching wild swine. Enjoy.

1. Browning BAR ShorTrac Hog Stalker

In 1917 John Moses Browning designed the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), and since it’s killed more enemies of America than just about anything else.

It served our men in every major conflict from World War I to Vietnam, and so sporting versions of it should be all the pig gun American hunters need. But the new BAR—while similar in nature to its combative brother—has undergone major changes to make it ideal in the pig woods.

Browning’s BAR ShorTrac Hog Stalker is a 10-round semi-auto .308 rifle that feels more like your deer rifle than an AR-15.

I have seen 30-30’s not penetrate boar skulls from the top also. In one instance I saw a 30-30 at 300 yeads not penetrate a boar's rib cage with three shots. I took him out with a 7x57 Mauser. The three 30-30 rounds were stuck in the ribs with one stuck in the bone. This was a 300 pound pig with tusks and a bad attitude in Kalifornia.

Were any of those through the top of the head?

Guess you were there and know better.

I was there for every shot I made. They were all head shots. The guide I had carried a .30-30, must have been very inadequate.

How many foot-pounds do you think the knife had?

Were you there for the "guy you heard about" up in the tree?

So you put a knife thru the top of a pigs skull. Pretty good

The local Wal-Mart has a couple of those but they seem a little expensive especially since they are Taurus or Rossi.

GunBroker has 'em between $500-$600, but then you gotta pay postage and a transfer fee. Sometime you hit on a good deal: got my stainless beauty for $475 + $60.

If you think those are expensive single-shots, these may well give ya a heart attack:

Best grab a couple whilst they’re still cheap!
Also available as a pistol if desired.

They also carry LOTS of other nice shootin’ goodies and I’ll add the that couple times I’ve purchased from them in the past I was completely satisfied (just ammo, scopes, etc., no firearms as of yet).
