Many military men have to stay in great shape, and work long hours.. Their families seem to be doing okay.
“Many military men have to stay in great shape, and work long hours.. “
I think you will find few military men who are in shape for a decathlon, and those you do find are going to be single, for the most part. You will find fewer dependents who think that they’re getting as much from their husbands and fathers as they should be. They make huge sacrifices.
In the Navy, when I was in, at least, the attitude was that you will work 24 hours a day and take care of your physical training, family, and sleep on your own time.
No, I’d be willing to bet there’s hardly a married man among these wall streeters.
“Their families seem to be doing okay.”
One thing I should have said: no, their families don’t seem to be doing okay. Some of them *seem* to be, but even those aren’t doing as well as you might think.
Military dependents have been notorious for bad behavior for at least 57 years that I personally know of. Adultery is epidemic. My boot camp company commander told the married men that when their ships returned to home port they would find their wives exactly like they left them: freshly f*cked.
Divorce. Suicide. Desertion. Alienation. Prolonged absence and exposure to traumatic events take their toll.
The husband and father who returns from war may not be the same man who left them.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t go along with “doing okay” as a blanket statement.
Some are doing splendidly, I’m sure, but even those have had to overcome great adversity.
