Juergen Klinsmann is excited for U.S. World Cup match with Germany

When the World Cup pairings were announced in December, the date U.S. Coach Juergen Klinsmann circled most prominently on his calendar was June 26, the group-play final against Germany.

That's the country Klinsmann, the player, led to a World Cup title in 1990 and the one Klinsmann, the coach, led to a third-place finish in the 2006 World Cup. So playing against his homeland in his first World Cup as the American coach was something he both feared and embraced.

Now that the game is at hand, though, Klinsmann says he's feeling another emotion: joy.

"This is going to be so much fun," he said Tuesday. "I'm so excited."

Balotelli hits back at World Cup criticism, discrimination
Next to a video with someone saying, "Mario, you're really not Italian. Go away," Balotelli posted a long reply on Instagram.

"I'm Mario Balotelli. I'm 23 years old and I didn't choose to be Italian," Balotelli wrote. "I strongly wanted (to be Italian) because I was born in Italy and have always lived in ITALY."

Algeria’s Vahid Halilhodzic prickly under pressure
“The fans never gave up on me, and it’s made me feel warm inside,” he began. “But the press – the press lost confidence in Vahid. This is a gift for everyone except for you. I know you’re sad tonight but this is how it is.

“There are things that have provoked such animosity in Vahid. So many lies. You have attacked my own family. My pride, my honour, no one has the right to touch those things but I have not won a battle for myself. The Algerian people have never given up on me and have expended a lot of energy, and this is a small reward.”

Brazil Has Faked The Most Injuries At The 2014 World Cup
Taking a dive or faking an injury isn’t something unique to soccer. There are phantom high sticks and elbows in hockey and basketball, NFL players who fake cramps and just this week Matt Carpenter got away with pretending he was hit by a pitch. But soccer is the sport most notorious for players writhing in pain, and this year’s World Cup has done little to erase that reputation. According to one report, no team at the tournament has faked more such injuries than the home nation, Brazil.

The next two results I really really want:

1. The USA to make the round of 16
2. Holland to deport Mexico from the World Cup

Belgium hope for winning formula against South Korea
Eden Hazard believes Belgium’s opening two victories have sent out a message to some of the teams considered favourites to win the World Cup.

“We intend to carry on winning – each time, we inspire more fear,” the Chelsea midfielder said. “That’s ideal in terms of getting the teams we meet to come at us with their heads as low as possible.”

Capello's Russia Must Score in World Cup or Go Home
Fabio Capello's goal-shy Russia will have to do better than England did under his guidance four years ago when they face a confident Algeria for a place in the World Cup knockout stage on Thursday.

The authoritarian Italian's lackluster England side played out a 0-0 draw against the 'Desert Foxes' in Cape Town in 2010, a tournament in which Algeria failed to score a single goal in their three group games.

The North Africans have never before progressed through the group stage but look a much more dangerous side now after beating South Korea 4-2 and narrowly losing out 2-1 to fancied Belgium.

I finally found the ESPN stream, so I'll be watching at work. I work with a lot of fans, so it should be fun.

We should be able to play with Germany. A victory wouldn't surprise me. But I'll predict a 2-2 tie.

Japan’s Coach Zaccheroni Resigns
"I am disappointed and not satisfied with the results. I really wanted to take us forward and qualify for the second round and I am so disappointed. But I picked the team, decided on the tactics and how we play and I want to take full responsibility”, the experienced Italian coach said.

Hodgson snapped back at one reporter when it was pointed out that Italy manager Cesare Prandelli had offered to resign following his team's elimination from the tournament on Tuesday.

"I told you the other day (I won't resign) and I've nothing more to add," the England manager said before adding: "The FA have asked me to continue. They want me to continue. I'm, very happy that they want me to continue.

"I have no reason to do so. I have no intention to do so.

"I don't want to be compared to other people.

"There could be dialogue, perhaps, whereby at any moment I could speak to one of them and say, 'do you want to play in this game, are you up for it?' That's how I'd really like to see it.
