Conservative pundit Ann Coulter believes that the country’s growing interest in soccer – fueled by Team USA’s success in the 2014 World Cup - is a sure sign of America's ‘moral decay.’
Coulter’s reasons for hating soccer include that individual achievement is not a big factor, it isn’t rough enough, and the fact that ‘it's foreign.’
As a conservative she argued that liberals only love soccer - and the metric system - because they're both 'European.'

Yes, and in a perfect world, one of my reforms for football would be to allow commercials only between quarters or halves, return to more or less continuous play, and return to limited substitution/single platoon football to run the 300 pound steriod freaks off the field.
Were they put onto the field, three quarters of a typical NFL team would drop dead of heart attacks within the first 20 minutes of a soccer game. Of course, if you performed the reverse experiment, most of the soccer players would be carried off a football field on stretchers due to collision injuries. Football has become a gladiatorial contest. Soccer is still an athletic match.
One addendum: If you translate soccer scoring stats to baseball, the typical baseball game would be 2-1, and 7-6 or 6-5 games or even 4-3 games would be very rare. A 10-8 game would be once every 40 years.

The modern era of both football and basketball have completely embraced the glitzy glamour part of society. Besides US sports media loving them the most, it shows up in all the self-congratulatory celebrations and chest pounding that is tolerated by fans and players. The cool players can’t self police the jerks so the jerks run wild. At least in soccer that garbage only happens after goals so it doesn’t occur 40 times a game. Also the lack of media/fans caring about both leagues being riddled with PEDS and not testing for HGH.

I follow sports economics and sociology as a hobby, and it will hurt yourself to admit—the “everyone gets a trophy concept” is as American as apple pie. We own it.

I think it’s a matter of taste. I grew up playing football, baseball, and basketball. Football was my first love, and I’m still very passionate about the game. I lost interest in basketball in the late 80’s, but I still love baseball. Baseball is also a game that many consider boring, but there is a lot more going on than just the duel between pitcher and hitter especially when there are runners on base. That is when the game within the game begins. Is the “Hit and run” on?, will the runner just straight up steal the next base? Is the other team just going to pitch around the hitter? What is the defensive shift going to be? If there is a man on 3rd, is the defense going to play up, or are they going to concede the run? The later innings are also when strategy really comes into play. Matchups between relievers and hitters, the double switch. Baseball is a great game. I think the most beautiful play in sports is a well executed 6-4-3 double play. Again it comes down to taste. I don’t like soccer, but I can understand why others do. To each his own.
I would rather have teeth pulled, than watch kick ball. That’s just the way it is.

I know LOTS of conservatives who follow soccer and have their kids in soccer leagues.
People like different sports for various reasons. Do people love golf because they hate America ... because you know golf is from Scotland?
