Work of sorts. Seven days in Espania and then 33 around the Mediteranian. Jet lag to the max.

-— that would have been Mexico’s greatest World Cup victory ever. -—

Yeah. Especially against Holland. Should have stayed aggressive, but only one out of 15 coaches would do it.

Well, that’s unfortunate. Though the rest of your trip sounds frankly great.

Marquez, the veteran player for Mexico, should have stayed a bit further away. It seems like Martinez was saying that Mexico already had a number of defenders in that area. Close call but fortunately, the good and bad calls in this case more or less, evened out.

This brings to mind the Fabian Grosso, Italy, fall against Australia in 2006.

Just like in basketball, sometimes you can draw fouls, sometimes the call is good, sometimes I think it’s outside of the spirit of the game.

Knockout game, Round of 16 just like today, Italy vs. Australia. This is a penalty to me even if it seems a little shady and dubious as happened against Australia in ‘06.

Clearly, the Dutch should have been given that 1st half penalty according to everyone.

In the end, a just result.

There are already over 90 minutes of commercials during a match.

If it’s political, be happy the pot smoking, euthanizing, abortion-promoting Dutch won then.

Perhaps now is the time to try to delete the most patronizing phrase in sports from the broadcaster’s vernacular: “they leave with their heads held high”.

No. Mexico got their hearts ripped out of their chests and handed to them still beating. That’s a bit different.

Only reason Meh-Hee-Co was even in Brazil was because of the US.

That was clearly a foul in the Italy v. Austrailia match in 2006.

Robben made a mental error earlier when he made his run into the box just before the water break when he jumped over the sliding defender. Had he simply run through the attempted tackle, the awarding of a penalty then would have been a simple decision and without any real dispute from Mexico.

Mexican ESPN analyst(Jorge ?) believes there was “injustice” against Mexico, and that Mexico played a better game than the Dutch.

LoL. Offensively, the Dutch were bringing the constant offensive pressure all day long in the 2nd half.

Given that they’ll need to get past Germany to arrive there as I see the bracket, that would be an achievement, though certainly not an impossible one.

I felt badly for Chile yesterday. If the American midfield could defend like Chile’s, we’d be a lot more likely to advance. What I saw out of their midfield was what I want to see out of ours, particularly if Klinsmann continues to play them in a tactic that absorbs pressure.

The apologetics from the ESPN crew for Mexico is frankly nauseating. The better team won and they could have won 4-1 if they had wound up on the penalty spot as often as they could have.

Still the fact that Holland did struggle at bit shows how difficult it will be for European teams down the stretch.
