SAO PAULO – Lost amid all the talk about the World Cup making soccer grow in popularity within the United States is one very real and unexpected development taking place right here in Brazil.

The United States is growing in popularity within soccer.

Don't look now, U.S. men's national team, but you are increasingly becoming the second favorite team for a lot of folks from other countries, including the host nation.

"Brazil is falling in love with the U.S.," said Brazilian businessman Mario Ribiero, who partied with American supporters in Recife last week. "It is seen as something new and exciting and surprising. We love the team because it is an underdog. And we love the fans."

I was cheering for Nigeria, since it’s home to some really awesome financial investments of mine. (which will be paying off big any day now).

“I hope they have a look at what happened and that this gentleman goes home just like we are.”

Herrera has absolutely nothing to complain about. Robben drew three penalties in the match and only one of them was awarded. His team had no answer for Robben, played with fire in its own box all day long and deserved its fate.

SMIG. Loved that show.

Bayern Munich with Beckenbauer, Sepp Maier, Paul Breitner and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Hamburg with Kevin Keegan. And Toby Charles calling it all. Those were the days.

I was hoping Nigeria would win to give a big FU to Boko Haram.

It’s like Bob Martinez says, all of these games except basically the Colombia/Uruguay game could have gone either way.

Even France didn’t score until the 79th minute. And their 2nd goal an own goal. Not bad though.

It was real close from the video, it’s almost a shame they call those kinds of goals back. I’m not sure what to think.

Here was a goal nullified that the manager of Belgium now scored against Brazil. Belgium played them well in ‘02.

It’s too bad they can’t get the calls better. Frustrating.

He looked clearly, but barely, offside to me. Good call, and not an easy one.

Löw’s plan appears to be to confuse the Arabs with completely retarded tactics.

I’d rather see Boateng as right, and Lahm as left defender. Both know how to play along the line.

Extra Time.

Germany’s done everything but score. They’ve got to get one sooner or later.
