Part of Juncker’s agenda will be to ensure that Europe challenges market abuse by American Internet giants with greater self-confidence. More important, however, will be for the EU to start cleaning up its own backyard.
Juncker wants to take advantage of a broad consensus among European politicians to put enough muscle in the EU’s digital market that European companies can stand up to competition from the United States and Asia in the longer term. “We could create additional growth of €500 billion ($684 billion) and several hundred thousand jobs in Europe,” the former Luxembourg prime minster says. …

Europe is Socialist and trending to Communist therefore they will not be able to excel or compete without changing the laws to drag down the competitors to their basement level of competence.
This is at least the umpteenth time Europe has declared digital war on the U.S. during the last 25 years. You know, raising big pots of taxpayer money to “invest” in high tech innovation, etc. Funny thing though. Not a farthing of this EU moola has ever brought about a single iota of EU digital/electronic innovation (well, except a skunks work project at CERN that came up with the HTTP protocol of course, but even here the U.S. invented the browser). Innovation is not something you can issue an RFP for, especially with government funding.
