City Council unanimously OKs liquor license for shooting range

A City of Omaha shooting range is on its way to securing a liquor license.

The Omaha City Council voted 7-0 Tuesday to approve the license for the Harry A. Koch Trap & Skeet Range, located in Seymour Smith Park near 68th and Harrison Streets.

Officials said the facility plans to serve only beer, and only in designated clubhouse and patio areas. Alcohol would be available only to people who were not shooting or had finished shooting, and would not be served during youth competitions.

“If anybody has had a drink, they will not be shooting,” Parks Director Brook Bench told the council.

If the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission signs off on the license, the range would be one of a handful of shooting ranges in the state that can serve alcohol. Others are in Papillion, Tekamah and Burchard.

So quickly we the “free” sheeple learn to applaud state licensure and control of shooting, drinking, eating, loving, living...

Responsible owners would make sure there is an entry-only door from the range on one side of the room, and an exit-only door to the parking lot on the other side of the room.

With some reasonable thought, this could work fine.

I’m more worried about anyone walking out of any bar drunk and getting into a car.

Not only are they going to restrict what and when you can drink alcohol, but also restrict if and when you can exercise your First Amendment Rights.

When I was young, I played in pool tounements. I found out I was pretty bad sober and even worse if drunk, but after about 2 beers, I was a pro. I haven’t tried this with competition shooting.

“If anybody has had a drink, they will not be shooting,” Parks Director Brook Bench told the council.

Try passing that off in Chicago or Detroit.

They are going to make a ton of money.

There’s a reason why there are bars at golf courses. After the round, you sit around and BS over a beer.

I know of some ranges around here where retired folk shoot skeet and would drop an artificial knee at a bar at the range.

We used to have a store in Gonzales, TX called “Guns ‘n Liquor”. They’ve been closed for several years, though.

What are laws carrying while intoxicated.

Are laws any different by transporting firearm and driving while under influence?

I have never understood the conviction that alcohol and firearms don’t mix. I mean, do you think I’d be trying to light a fart with a .45 when I was sober? Think, people!
