Use something like
ccleaner to clean your temporary files, make sure your Flash and other plugins are up to date at
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/, and yes, try switching to
Pale Moon or one of the other browsers built on the open-source Mozilla code that underlies Firefox.
If your problems are Flash related, you might have better luck with one of the Chromium-based browsers.
