Speaking of which, can anyone recommend software for finding and removing spam already in your PC?

noticed all your lovely responses on this now dead thread.
Its dead because I was the only one you responded to, plenty gave advice, took the time to type it out, and you didnt issue one thank you or response—besides me. Seems kind of userish, you want things easy.

Frankly I do have a short list of free programs , but that would not be too helpful to you.

If you own something you either pay someone to fix it, or you do it yourself. Part of doing it yourself of course is that you have some minor or key help along the way. The internet makes people lazy when it comes to asking questions and expecting answers. If you needed help with Spybot, then you need to educate yourself or pay someone.

Spybot gets rid of spyware and adware, thats its category and thats what it removed from your machine.
If you dont have anti-virus scanner then you have more problems..virus and other bad things. The category of spam(which you said you are looking for, but is probably use of a careless term on your part) more or less fits into adware—which presumably spybot took care of.

No one program gets it all in one category, so you should run a variety of good-reputation free programs in these categories and then make your own decisions about what you like.Dont download something that looks good , unless you check it out with google as to its reputation through others, otherwise you’ll be downloading huge problems.

Good luck with google my friend.
