The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.'

Hey, Vision! Doing fine here. We’ve had great weather, too, just pretty warm, though.

How’ve you been?

I had a great week. Only worked a few days, didn’t get to barbecue as much because the weather seemed a little iffy. But overall just been nice, relaxing, great weather. Did you have a nice Independence Day ?

We both had to work on July 4th, so we just did our usual evening. Keith grilled hamburgers and we listened to the “war zone” all around us, but we didn’t get to see any fireworks.

Hi, Gina. Right back at you. Just kicking back on a pleasant Sunday evening. Dinner’s in the oven, the wife is doing well, the cats are all agreeable, the wine is chilled, and the stars are all in their place in the heavens. Decent Gunsmoke rolling at the moment.

Tonight it’s cheddarwurst baked in a dish of scalloped potatoes with extra diced onion, Parmesan cheese, and cracked peppercorns. Dinner on the grill was Friday. Two obscenely priced New York Strip steaks. The price of beef is getting absurd.

Yes, beef price is nuts! It’s like the weirdo insane price of red, yellow and orange bell peppers. What the heck is with that?!

We just have chicken on the grill and a sausage to put on in a little while. I’ll have to whip up a side dish.
