Growing up with him as my father I was completely immersed in a musical culture long before my earliest recollections .I knew he was an incredibly gifted musician and singer because I saw him on stage while huge crowds were cheering, giving him standing ovations, basically just going nuts but all the while I never really understood what all the hype was about, he played that boring, yucky, country music. Being a drummer John Bonham was my idol and I was the craziest, most fanatical Zep- head (been a long time since I rocked and rolled) you had ever seen. Why couldn't my pops just rock out sending all the babes into such a frenzy they would all start chucking their clothes on stage! Needless to say that dazed and confused reckless teen no longer lives in Kashmir and long ago are the days when he would give "no-quarter" to his father. Currently he just wants to say thank you! Thank you for all you have done, not just for me but for everyone who has been lucky enough to enjoy the incredible gifts God bestowed upon you with which you have unconditionally shared with the world. OK back to rocking out.
For those who think of my father as just a singer, His guitar solo in this video clearly demonstrates that his picking ability places him, in my opinion, on the same, or perhaps greater, plateau as the all-time greats such as Clapton ,Page, Beck, Knopfler, Hendrix or whomever your favorites may be, enjoy!

But he most often played that boring, yucky, MOR music. Except when he was working in the studio with artists of all descriptions, and making their music better.

Cool poem. Campbell was a vicious guitar player. He rocked. (I know he is not dead yet, but he is suffering a serious brain disease)

I’ve always liked “MacArthur Park.” At the time it came out, Douglas MacArthur was one of my greatest heroes, and I loved the fact that a song about Los Angeles was a big national hit.
They have in a care facility now, pretty sad.

He was an "A-list" session man out in LA through the early and mid '60s. He played on the minor hit song Tequila, which recording also included James Seals and Dash Crofts, or so the legend goes.
Yeah, Glen is in assisted living for Alzheimer’s. Unfortunately, I think he’s played his last concert for us.
Campbell was an awesome guitarist....easily the equal to or the superior to the big names that have been listed.
In the “extras’ on his SD Symphony DVD (everyone should own this, btw), there is a piece where they were traveling and a song would come on the radio and Glen would say “Yeah, I played on that.” Then another. “Yep that one too”. It just went on and on.
He played guitar on You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling. He played guitar for Dean, Frank, Elvis. He played on Pet Sounds.
They say you had about a 25% chance of hearing him play guitar if you turned on your car radio in the 60’s.

Dash recalls that they re-recorded "Tequila" and being told that the new recording was intended to replace the hit version for legal reasons.
Perhaps this is the source of the confusion.
No information was given as to when the re-recording took place, or whether it was ever released.
In any event, the Wikipedia page for the song leaves no doubt that the facts are as you say.
