SHE sent the letter of recommendation.

Also:

“Elusta says she was then dismissed from UIC just one month before graduation.”

Universities don’t just dismiss students without cause on just a say-so from someone.

There is a LOT more to this, that is not being covered in the article, which is trying to paint her as a victim.

Universities don’t just dismiss students without cause on just a say-so from someone.

The article says that Gonzalez threatened to use his connections to kick her out if she didn't go out drinking with him.

No, at least the one I went to had an Honor Council made up of students and professors who sat on such a case, heard testimony, received evidence, etc. before handing down a decision, much like a court.

The standard for ours was 'Guilty beyond a reasonable doubt'.
