Former Denison teacher arrested for improper relationship with student

DENISON, TX -- A former Denison ISD teacher was arrested after police say she admitted to having an improper relationship with one of her students.

Some of those encounters reportedly happened in the classroom.

"I've heard stories, like I've seen across the nation of it happening in other places, but I never expected it to happen here," said parent, Amy Timberlake.

Parents we spoke to say they can't believe 34-year-old Julie Bollinger, a former Denison High School teacher, was arrested for having an improper relationship with a student.

"It is a crime for a teacher to have a relationship with the teacher no matter what the age limit is," said Grayson County District Attorney, Joe Brown. "So the particular charge we are looking at in this case is an improper relationship between a student and a teacher."

But to put a little different spin on this, the Kinsey types say that the male reaches his peak sex drive at age 18 and a woman reaches hers at 35.

Historically, at 18, a guy has no certainty he will live to an old age, so he might as well impregnate as many women as he can. Girls, on the other hand, have an incentive to be choosy during their years of peak sexual attractiveness. At 35, with the end of her reproductive life approaching, a woman's body tells her "the time for being choosy is over, reproduce while you still can". Or alternately, "it's best to keep your mate interested with frequent sex, so he doesn't go off looking for a younger, hotter woman".

Guilty means she's fugly, not guilty means she's decent looking. The fact that she's guilty or not guilty in a court of law here is not the intent and context of the comment. Having sex with students is inappropriate in any academic environment irrespective of the gender.
