The man with the wife who has pre-cancer does appear to have a serious concern. I do know that the RC Church will approve abortions for the life of the mother - but not for convenience of the mom, or for her ‘mental health’.

No, the Roman Catholic Church does NOT ever approve of abortion. NOT EVER. As in NEVER. Not for any reason.

Hold on there, the church never approves of abortion. If it comes down to the actual life of mother not the well.... maybe this could happen, NO! or baby. Then the mother must be saved. If they were to seek councel on this matter I do know that it would be better to practice Natural Family Planning, abstinence or safe sex. Just continuing to have sex knowing it could end in abortion is not sanctioned by the Church.

Th Church does not approve of procured abortion in any instance, BUT for grave reason (e.g. life of the mother) allows actions that can be foreseen to result in the death of a child. This all goes under "principle of double effect".
