You may or may not heard of the three rising stars who make up the metal band Unlocking The Truth. Over the last couple years they have been growing in popularity and have even opened for Guns ‘N’ Roses. The catch? Two of them are only thirteen years old! The other, their drummer, is only 12. They may be young, but they have already taken the biggest possible step in their career. It has been revealed that the trio have penned a $1.7 million contract with Sony. If they fulfill the entire contract and release six albums they will receive at least $1.7 million.

It’s the music biz. Before its all said and done, they’ll owe Sony twice that.

Sounds like they were dazzled by $1.7 million. Unless they get royalties for the next 6 albums that really isn’t very much money. If they hit the concert circuit that should be where they make the money. Hopefully they get a good manager and keep their lives straight.

As Pink Floyd mused “Welcome to the machine.”

What’s amazing is that they’re black kids which is pretty rare. Its very rare that its all black kids in a conservative leaning genre.

What were you doing when you were thirteen?

Dino, Desi and Billy had a couple of Top 40 hits.

I read the details... Basically they get a 60K advance for one album, and have to sell 250,000 copies to receive any royalties. Sony has options to release subsequent albums at various budget levels that add up to 1.7 million if all 6 albimsbare released.. In short, the press release is a publicity stunt.

They’re going to need a lead guitarist.

Living Color was an all black rock/metal band in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

They’re pretty good. I’ll send this to Alfonzo Rachel and see what he says about them. He has a metal band, too.

This is like a class project and if the singer wasn’t an 11 year old girl, they could pass for Tool.

True. The govt. will take at least half, their agent 10% or more and their audiologists will take the rest. I heard the clip on Fox today. Irving Berlin. Cole Porter and the rest of Tin Pan Alley are rolling over in their graves.

Pretty good for 13 year olds.

The lead guitarist needs to switch to dreds because the afro doesn't work with thrash metal.

Good for them at their age, and they are very good at what they do. However, and it may just be because I’m not into Heavy Metal much, all their songs sound the same (I checked out some of their other videos on YouTube) and without singing, ends up sounding like noise.

It could just be me...

Exactly. They should have watched the “History of the Eagles” and learned how the music business is all for the record label and not for the artist. But it was rated TV-MA.
