You may or may not heard of the three rising stars who make up the metal band Unlocking The Truth. Over the last couple years they have been growing in popularity and have even opened for Guns ‘N’ Roses. The catch? Two of them are only thirteen years old! The other, their drummer, is only 12. They may be young, but they have already taken the biggest possible step in their career. It has been revealed that the trio have penned a $1.7 million contract with Sony. If they fulfill the entire contract and release six albums they will receive at least $1.7 million.

Just in time for their voices to start changing.
The record company will tell them it will cost $5 million to produce all the albums so they’ve deducted the $1.7 million mentioned in the contract and they’ll say the band owes the record company $3 million+. Then they’ll get the band to sign away the rights to their songs to pay back the record company. They’re too young to tour full time, which is the only way to really make money, so basically they’re up that infamous creek without a paddle.
1.7 for 6 albums?? 6 albums?? And probably didn’t retain any publishing or merchandise points.
Gonna wish they never did by album 2 ESPECIALLY if they’re still in the red at that point.
I’ll wager they’ll owe Sony before the first tour.
Top half mil will be sunk in the studio.

I watched a cool documentary this weekend about a Detroit area proto-punk band called Death. It’s the story of three brothers — black guys — who cut a really excellent demo for what would be considered a punk album...in 1973!
They made the demo then were serially rejected by the record companies because of their name. The tape wound up languishing in an attic for thirty years. Then their music was rediscovered and became sort of a sensation in the punk community.
An interesting wrinkle is that their father was a preacher and they are/were believing Christians. The producers downplay it but it’s obvious nevertheless.
