Word For The Day, Tuesday July 15, 2014

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

Coxcomb [KOKS-kohm]

-n
1.a conceited, foolish dandy; pretentious fop
2. Archaic head; pate.

[Coxcomb is a corrupted spelling of cock's comb , the comb of a rooster, hence the badge resembling it that was worn in the cap of a professional fool or jester, hence the wearer of the cap, hence a fool or a vain and silly man.]

the radio station I listen to on the morning commute played the Tacky track, and a little bit of the Aluminum Foil one [to Lorde’s Royals!] and some polka medley. I can’t find any of them online except Tacky, is he just piecemeal releasing them?
Your daughter is so adorable with this!

Yes; he's releasing one video a day for eight days straight, starting with Tacky yesterday. You're ahead of me on Aluminum Foil and this album's polka medley!

Okay, I’m holding you accountable. I taught myself Swallowtail Jig on mandolin this week. The youngest played with me on violin and the spouse on guitar. Everyone was faster than me. Are you playing?

Lacrosse is what messed up my son’s shoulder, requiring surgery the following season.

no, i have been a complete bum. Let myself get caught up in summer and kitchen remodel. But still plenty of downtime that should be used better. Bless you for asking; i do truly appreciate it.

I’m home from work ahead of the rain clouds and thunder crawling in from the northwest-the air is humid, stifling and no breeze-just waiting...

Obama’s dialog with Israel
Just isn’t going so great-
Maybe because coxcomb Kerry
Is the secretary of state...

A wealthy Kennedy wannabe
Who is programmed to reject
Anything that stops Hamas
Won’t command any respect

From anyone but dilettantes
Who support Obama’s own views
And only know what’s going on
When they see it on the news...

Did you happen to watch Longmire last night? It seems obvious that Walt blew the lunatic bad guy away, but it wasn’t said-just ended with a shocked Vic rushing back to the crime scene in Walt’s truck after being taken to safety.

How are the wedding plans progressing? I love the way everything seems so orderly and calm there-by the time the cub was within a couple months of her wedding, she was already exhibiting bridezilla behaviour...

Oh no, we missed it. We’ll watch it tonight. I like Vic and Walt’s relationship. It’s like big brother/little sister how they both respect and care for each other.

The “son of polar vortex” is in town now. It’s going to be pleasant with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the mid 50s for the next couple days.

Same in Chicago. I’m in long sleeves; didn’t expect to be in that part of the closet for months.

Oops, sorry-since you usually watch it on Mon, I guessed that you had-it is a good episode, though...

I also think the relationship is a good one, especially for an employee and supervisor doing sometimes-dangerous work-but Vic’s husband seems to think they have-or at least want-to know each other in the biblical sense, just because Vic had an affair with that older guy who was a coworker before she married him-the one who stalks her off and on-

That advancing cool front is what is bringing us rain just ahead of it.

Once when MrT5 was TDY in Colorado in July, he called me to say there were snowflakes falling-I didn’t believe him but he came home with pictures-it was just a little dusting that melted fast, but it was snow...
