Major League Baseball has hired openly gay former ballplayer Billy Bean as their new Ambassador For Inclusion. Bean's job will be to assure all MLB stakeholders of an inclusive and equitable workplace and provide awareness and educational resources that help mandate the league's workplace code of conduct.
"It's ironic that I am returning to baseball to help erase the same reason I left," Bean told Outsports in an exclusive interview. Bean left baseball in 1995 shortly after his then-partner passed away. Bean skipped his partner's funeral to play in a game for the Padres, lest someone discover he was gay.

What the hell difference should it be what you do in the bedroom if you can really good at baseball? Just shut up and play. We don’t need to know you are a homosexual. If that choice is more important to you then a career in Pro Ball then so be it. Good riddance........
As I have said in the past, prepare yourselves for homosexual day in at least one major sport. It could very well be baseball but uniforms will be changed throughout the sport in a similar fashion to how NFL players wear pink for a month. You will also have homosexuals, perhaps a married couple, throw the first pitch prior to a game. President Elizabeth Warren will likely attend at least one game and say that the homosexuals are the true image of what a man should be.

MLB is really sad that the NFL and NBA beat them to the punch with their first openly gay players. But the nature of MLB has many more problems with something like this, there is so much more focus on judged individual ability and so hard to get to the highest level. I mean if he’s a position player there is going to be 4-6 at bats where the ump has to judge balls and strikes, throwing inside, getting drilled, whatever. And everyone is going to be watching for supposed non-neutral calls one way or the other.

Nowadays with pitch f/x and other systems they will able to tell if the umps are being unreasonably favorable or unfavorable to certain players. How many balls where called when they were really strikes or how many strikes when they were really balls depending on if you pitch or are a position player. Veterans and rookies have always been called somewhat differently, a gay rookie or veteran that comes out will be scrutinized even more.
As far as a pitcher moving someone’s feet or intentionally sticking someone, yeah that’s going to be a big bag of worms. Absolutely never throwing in to a certain guy for fear of what might be read into it if you hit him, that will certainly allow him to dive out over the plate after whatever he wants.

I am completely disgusted. My 12 year-old son adores Angels baseball. Why does this element have to be introduced into it? Can’t there be anything that’s nonsexual? As somebody else put it on this thread:

Very soon, I anticipate. Obama is preparing to issue an executive order forbidding all recipients of federal funding, including universities, from "discriminating" against homosexual behavior. And we all know that you can only prove you don't "discriminate" by meeting a quota.

FWIW, my Mrs. is so shy that we will be out driving in traffic and I'll mention wanting to make whoopie when we get home. She will give me a dirty look and say "Shut up! There are other people around!"
Fortunately, she is a lot more open about it when we're alone. But the point is that we can stay out of people's faces and quietly do our thing in privacy.
Absolutely correct! Cannot fathom why:
1. The NFL has to wear pink during October.
2. Showboating players act as if they have saved the village from a rogue elephant after a tackle, 10 yard reception, TD, basket, homerun.
3. Players can act as if they are superhuman for making a slam dunk (on a basket one foot higher than their arms reach) but whine like babies if they hear the "N" word.
4. Tickets prices, parking and concessions for a family of four at any pro sporting event rival the amount usually spent on a vacation.
5. Present day parks, arenas and stadiums look like Little League ballparks with all the advertising on fences, let alone the rings around the arena and stadium, ice, uniforms and TV timeouts. Even pro golfers look like NASCAR drivers with all the sponsorship logos on their shirts and caps.

Not that there isn’t too much celebratory buffoonery in MLB, but it’s so much less than the other sports. The reason you don’t see someone capering down to first and making choke signs to the pitcher after drawing a walk is that no one wants 90+ anywhere much less your eye socket. Hit a homerun in the first inning and moonwalk around the bases and see what happens. Maybe not to you, and maybe not that day or even that series, but eventually retaliation happens.
The NFL has 16 regular season games, each one is so important that the cool players can’t police the jerkwads because of penalties, a million camera angles and modern officiating. So you have 300lb behemoths falling on a loose ball and getting up and breaking out the fruity gyrating and chest pounding displays. And they could do it all day long, nothing is going to happen to them that doesn’t normally happen.

You are correct that MLB has far fewer instances of celebratory gestures, but when I was playing no one stood at home plate and watched a homerun sail over the fences or they would have been delivered some chin music next plate appearance.
Beanball takes on a whole new meaning.
Can I use it in a sentence? Sure... "Fred you looked faaaabulous in that dress at the Beanball yesterday."
Oh yeah, standing at the plate and watching your ball leave for seconds bothers me, unless it’s down the line or something and you are watching if it’s foul or a homer. Players occasionally still get thrown at for being egregious with it, but admiration for your homer is WAAAAY more common than it used to be. Sticking someone the next at bat after they homered off you is bush league too, and that used to be way more common as well.
I also don’t like the fruity walk off celebration thing, but at least that’s the last play of the game. Should still save it for the clubhouse and let the fans do the crazy capering.
