Which TV series should have gone on?

Posted on 07/19/2014 8:28:11 PM PDT by MNDude

Most TV series "jump the shark" or get bad long before they end. But there's always a few that you wish that went on at least another season. Which TV series or program(s) do you wish hadn't ended when it did but continued on at least another year?

You’re one of the few who ever mention “High Incident”. Some folks from “Hill St. Blues were involved in it onscreen and off, as I recall. I got to help out as a tech advisor of sorts on a couple of episodes. I thought it was very well-done. I was also a fan of “Hill St. Blues”.

Firefly

Bingo.

Big time.

But Firefly themed freedom from government control and self-reliance guided by an actual set of morals.

Whooo boy, can't be showing the sheep THAT sort of inflammatory ideas.

And Jerico?

No dang way!

The final episode had Jake and Hawkins with the evidence that would push the restored Republic of Texas into the controlling State in the struggle between the ASA government and Eastern United States.

If the corruption between ASA and Jennings & Rall is discovered and revealed by the Republic of Texas to the citizens of ASA the conflict might be ended and East and West United States re-united.

Cant be having folks think about a new Republic of Texas having THAT much influence!

Emergency!

We used to it around the firehouse and laugh at the mistakes. Every show had at least one glaring no-no in it.

Forgot “Rockford Files”, that was one of my favorites. Always thought the casting of Jim’s father was so perfect, Noah Beery Jr., he even looked like Garner. And Stuart Margolin was perfect as Rockford’s weasely friend.

One of my all-time favorite Cosby routines.

Probably my two favourite bits from Firefly - both involving Mal and Simon.

Simon: I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can. How do I know you won't kill me in my sleep?
Mal: You don't know me, son, so let me explain this to you once. If I ever kill you, you'll be awake. You'll be facing me. And you'll be armed.
Simon: Are you always this sentimental?
Mal: Had a good day.

and

Simon: Captain, why did you come back for us?
Mal: You're on my crew.
Simon: Yeah, but you don't even like me. Why'd you come back?
Mal: You're on my crew. Why are we still talking about this?

Would have liked to have had Magnum PI continue with a more serious tone. The best episodes of the series were the ones with a serious theme to them, or when everyone went back into military mode to help out a friend.

Magnums rerun on thursday nights (8-12) on a channel called Cozi, which is basically an NBC cable channel, also every day at 2pm.

Agreed! B5 could have been the best 5 year run of all time had it been allowed to progress as originally envisioned. As it was, most of Season 5, while it had some good, even excellent moments, was sort of a “the great story is over - uh, now I gotta come up with more story...”

Still, even so, and despite a nonsensical explanation of the method of the station’s demolition, the real finale, “Sleeping In Light” is my favorite TV episode of all time. (”Severed Dreams” probably comes in 2nd, I suppose!)

I don’t have cable or satelite TV. Hardly ever watch it since 1990.

What do you think happened in The Event? I really wished they tied up the story. The aliens amongst us was a great premise.

Going back, the first Star Trek series certainly had more than 3 season, even if seasons had 30 shows back then.

In recent years The Riches comes to mind. It was a pretty good show, and they just left everything hanging at the end. Clearly they expected another season.
