VATICAN CITY Pope Francis has expressed concern for Christians forced to flee Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, where Christians have resided for centuries.
The pontiff in his traditional Angelus blessing on Sunday offered prayers for Iraqi Christians who "are persecuted, chased away, forced to leave their houses without out the possibility of taking anything" with them.
Christians departed Mosul this week for the largely autonomous Kurdish region after they were issued an ultimatum to convert to Islam, pay a tax or face death.

Sorry a pope that is willing to have ‘dialog’ with a religion that kills believers just because they won’t convert....and then says he is ‘concerned’.....that’s pretty limp wristed too.
I think John Paul II or Benedict might have offered a slightly stronger position on such a devastating turn of events.
Sigh.
Nope, sorry, might interfere with the tee time.
Guess you haven't read the US Law cases on removing crosses raised in memory of our soldiers...or removal of the Ten Commandment Monuments...or not saying the name Jesus or God at graduations....and the newest assault...an atheist giving a speech at a Town Board Meeting.
Our forefathers had it right. Factions of this generation is a disgrace.
It’s been a while since a Pope declared a Jihad. I wouldn’t expect it.
It has become impossible to take this guy seriously. “Violence is not overcome with violence.” Does he mean to disrespect our soldiers and police, many of whom have given their lives to defend us from evil (this doesn’t imply that I endorse “our side” in all wars), or is it that he is just too much of an idiot? What overcame the Nazis? Dialogue? And what will overcome radical Islam? I put my money on the majority of Sunni Muslims, once independence of western Iraq is secure. In the meantime, I recommend that the remaining Christians of Iraq make their way to Iraqi Kurdistan and join with them in defending themselves against the radicals. Nobody should listen to this man. Not on economics. Not on geopolitics. As for the Catholic Church, it stayed neutral on fascism through WWII. It is now staying neutral on the rise of radical Islam. The last war in which it took a side in a war was the Spanish Civil War. And that was just a mess. The Pope wants the Catholic Church to side with the poor and ignore those who exemplify the martial virtues and the prudential virtues, those who are productive and those who defend us. He thinks the only virtues are the compassionate virtues. Heresy usually consists of denying part of the truth. As the spiritual leader of one billion people, he needs to get in touch with and affirm the goodness of all the virtues.
Well said.
Site the pope who ever declared a ‘jihad’.... unless of course you are just trying to be too clever by half.
Leadership can be shown in many ways..... take a look at John Paul II as an example
true words.... in fact we KNOW that John Paul II had a stringer reaction
If you mean, in referring to the three cardinal virtues, faith, hope and charity, the greatest of which is charity, that Christian businessmen and soldiers are motivated by charity, then Amen Brother.
Very well stated.
I’m guessing those Christians are feeling supported and empowered by the Pope. Sigh
not what I said at all
I know. Take care. We Freepers gosta work together.
Got it
